Our guide to the EYFS for parents

At Robin's Nest Community Preschool, we believe in the power of early childhood education. We are dedicated to providing a nurturing environment where children can learn and grow. Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework which focuses on the seven areas of learning and development. We believe that every child has the potential to learn and reach their full potential, and it is our mission to provide them with the tools to do so.

To support your child the best way possible it is important to have some knowledge of the early year's foundation stage framework and what it involves. Being at preschool is the first foundation of building blocks of their education. It looks like play, but it is carefully planned play that supports your child’s learning skills. We work hard to provide quality education for your children and by using the framework, this helps us ensure that we make the foundations strong for your child's future.

What is the EYFS framework?

The EYFS is the framework used in your child’s early year's education from birth to 5. This framework supports professionals in setting out:

  • The legal welfare requirements to keep your child safe.

  • The seven areas of learning and development.

  • Assessments that will tell you about your child’s progress through the EYFS.

  • Expected levels (Early Learning Goals) that your child should reach at age 5, usually the end of the reception year

The EYFS includes welfare standards designed to keep your child safe and sets out our legal requirements. This will include numbers of staff for ratio, safety routines like administering medicines, appropriate record keeping, and the carrying out of risk assessments.

How you can get involved

Parent partnerships is part of the early year's foundation stage framework, Early years educators understand how children develop and are vital in the partnership with you to improve outcomes for children. The parents as partners is a two way flow of information between you and your child’s key person. By engaging with us we can work together to really get the best experience for your child when they attend.

You could:

  • Send us pictures and videos of things you’ve done at home.

  • Work with your key person at sharing information and sharing knowledge.

  • Come into preschool for stay and plays and parent engagement times.

  • Help us with community outings

Areas of learning and development

All children are unique and learn in their own time and in their own way. At Robin's Nest Community Preschool we aim to nurture and inspire children to be curious and plan our continuous provision to follow the seven areas of learning. We pride ourselves on our inclusive practice, with skilfully adapted areas of learning suitable for all needs including maths, literacy, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design

  • Communication and language.
We are looking at how your child communicates and how they use this to understand, communicate with each other, and the development of speech and speech sounds.

  • Physical development
How does your child move and use their bodies to balance? How does your child use resources like blocks and mark making equipment? How is your child taking care of themselves and learning new independent skills like dressing feeding and staying safe?

  • Personal, social, and emotional development
How is your child’s wellbeing? How are they managing emotions and can they regulate themselves? How can they play with others and join in?

'Amazing pre-school! They go above and beyond for the children, welcomed my 2 year old who has epilepsy with open arms and ensured all staffs knowledge and understanding was up to date leaving me satisfied he was in safe hands!'
